Like any efficient architect, we need specific raw materials to elaborate our work.
These paintings are built up with the help of 3 materials :
*1. the support.
*2. the coating.
*3. paint and gold.*1. The support is made up from a thick a big plywood- board (according to the size of the painting.) Then, a linen cloth is mounted with a wood glue, in order to fill-in the empty space between the wood and the coating subsequently.
*2. The coating is a mixture of gypsum or Parisian plaster and under-heat-liquefied wood glue. This mix is laid down on the plank in order to obtain a 5mm-thick coating, which will be sanded down and pounced once dry, just to be as smooth as possible.
The outline will be drawn in it, following the concave technique, like Egyptians used to do with bas-reliefs.*3. The paint is mixed with tempera, that is to say with an egg-emulsion pigment, using water as a thinner. That emulsion enables the painter to obtain long-lasting opaque and bright colors without any varnish then.
On certain spots, we use gold leaves like gliders used to, just to make sculpted parts stand out of the picture.
